CCHE Advisory Committee on Capital Construction Policies and Priorities
April 15, 1993
Page 2

Conservation Planning Grants and Training Op.POrtunities

Grant programs can assist your institutions in obtaining additional funds to undertake more
aggressive water conservation activities. Chris Bridges, of the Colorado Water Conservation
Office, will be providing each of you with a list of grant programs and regional training
opportunities in Colorado. Please review these opportunities and take such action as your
colleges/universities judge to be appropriate to their water use situation. When you directly
respond to Chris Bridges, send a copy to Robert Ward as DaRE Coordinator, to incorporate as
part of the department-wide water conservation planning and management effort.

Water conservation technical training opportunities are also locally available to municipal and
school district personnel. Your campus facilities management personnel should take advantage of
these opportunities being provided by the Department of Natural resources and the Department
of Local Affairs.

Longer-Range Planninl! and Management

In addition to the campus data collection and reporting efforts, grant programs, and technical
training opportunities, the Department of Higher Education will begin to formulate longer-range
planning and management activities regarding water conservation. Robert and I envision that most
of these future efforts will stem from Amendment 1 cost containment budgeting efforts, and
therefore will be integrated into the campus level annual operations planning and budgeting
process. If you foresee major obstacles to that concept, please advise Robert Ward (telephone 303-
491-6308).

cc: Robert Ward, DOHE Water Conservation Plan Coordinator
Chris Bridges, Colorado Office of Water Conservation
