-.

DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE
PORT OF ENTRY DIVISION
FOR INTRA-DEPARTMENTAL CORRESPONDENCE

TO:

Ken Jacobs, OPA

~, twJ~4/

DATE: November 16, 1992

FROM:

Barb DeHart, POE

SUBJECf: Water ConseIVation Plan

With fegard to your October 6, 1992 memo regarding the above subject, Randy Curtis, Gil
Lattimer and I met to discuss same. Further discussion was held with Susan Bishop. The Motor
Vehicle Division response was submitted to you in Gil's memo of November 5,1992.

The water conselVation plan as it relates to us applies to the various Port buildings around the
state. Port headquarters in Denver is a leased facility, not state owned.

Water Heaters

In instances where water heaters have had to be replaced, the equipment acquired was both
energy efficient and water conseIVing.

Landscape

Most of the Port facilities are surrounded by concrete and asphalt. The type of grass growing
around some Ports is considered wild grass and is not watered. There are no plans to have any
water needs for landscaping.

Restroom/Lavatorv Fixtures

Whenever repairs and/or replacement parts are required, water saving devices have been and will
continue to be used. No renovations are planned. The majority of Ports are not seIViced by
sanitation districts but septic systems. These systems will malfunction with the ultra-water-
conseIVing one and one-half gallon tanks. The three and one-half to five gallon tanks will
continue to be used.

Maintenance

All port personnel are encouraged to follow water conseIVing practices while conducting general
cleanup activities at the end of shifts.
