RETROFIT DEMONSTRATION PROJECT
Colorado Department of Natural Resources
and
city of Grand Junction

~ii~li'iJl'~i.*;![MI

The Retrofit pilot Project, coordinated through the Water
Conservation Program, Department of Natural Resources, will be the
state's first official residential water efficiency demonstration
project. Technical advice, project implementation and other
assistance will be provided from sources including Grand Junction,
Office of Energy Conservation, Denver Water Department, Colorado
Water Conservation Board, and area consultants.

The overall goal of the Residential Retrofit Demonstration Project
is to develop information regarding the economic impact of a
retrofit program and the water utility's return on program
investment. This project has been designed to accomplish the goal
through the following four objectives:
1. to determine changes in water and energy usage from a
residential plumbing fixture retrofit;
2. to determine the program cost effectiveness for both
residents and the Grand Junction water utility;
3. to determine long term water savings potential from
retrofit;
4. and to evaluate device acceptance levels from homeowners

Approximately 100 single family homes will participate in the
project. Homes will have all bathrooms retrofitted with a low-flow
showerhead, faucet aerator and a water reducing toilet device.
Water and energy usage from the sample of single family residences
will be collected for 18 months and will then be evaluated. Once
completed the information will be shared with communities and water
utilities state and nationwide.
