RETROFIT DEMONSTRATION PROJECT
Colorado Department of Natural Resources
and
city of Grand Junction

Wl#i@ij;~~@:jWl!il:gfi;ii
........,.......................................................................................

ISSUE
Water conservation is fast becoming an expected component of
managing water supplies throughout the country. As Colorado
communities beginning to expand water conservation and water use
efficiency efforts, new and more reliable information to predict
permanent reductions in water consumption will be important. The
State of Colorado is in need of current supplemental information
regarding residential water consumption and the effects of
conservation measures on consumption. The Residential Retrofit
Demonstration Project conducted in Grand Junction will help provide
this information.

GOALS/OBJECTIVE
The overall goal of the Residential Retrofit Demonstration Project
is to develop information regarding the economic impact of a
retrofit program and the water utility's return on program
investment. This project has been designed to accomplish the goal
through the following four objectives:
1. to determine changes in water and energy usage from a
residential plumbing fixture retrofit;
2. to determine the program cost effectiveness for both
residents and the Grand Junction water utility;
3. to determine long term water savings potential from
retrofit;
4. and to evaluate device acceptance levels from homeowners

The Retrofit Demonstration Project will be coordinated through the
Department of Natural Resources. Technical advice, project
implementation and other assistance will be provided from a number
of sources.

PROJECT ADVISORS
A Technical Advisory group has been established to properly guide
the project. This group will provide technical support in project
design, development of evaluation criteria and administrative
particUlars of the project. The group will consist of staff from
the Office of Energy conservation, Grand Junction utility, Denver
Water Department, Colorado Water Conservation Board, a consulting
firm and Department of Natural Resources. Input from the group will
be coordinated through DNR.

A second informal advisory group will be considered for purposes of
increasing the awareness and support from the community leadership.
This group would consist of representatives from the Grand Junction
press and other active community members.
