DATABASE ANALYSIS
The software used for the data analysis is Lotus 123 realease 4. This software
provides the user with a three dimensional feature which allows separation of records
by individual customer account. This feature also enables the user to enter the data
for each customer on a separate worksheet.

The database has been designed to analyze the mean monthly and mean daily
consumption, variance, standard deviation, sample variance, sample standard based
on the monthly billing cycle and actual meter readings of water, gas and electricity.
The worksheet shows data for water and energy use. Gas and electric data was
collected by Public service and the water data was collected by the Grand Junction
water utility. A table at the end of the spreadsheet analyzes the above data and
includes a spreadsheet that represents the mean of differences, standard of
differences, count, standard error of means and the Hest.

Preliminary Results

Water

The results of the mean of differences for the pre-test and post-test period are
shown on the tables and graphs on the following pages. Winter water use was
evaluated from November through February. The table of water consumption
data shows a decrease in water use for the months of November and
December with an increase for January and a decrease for February. These
four months show evidence of water savings as this is a time when exterior
water use is at a minimum. The results show a savings of 6.4% for these four
months. The overall savings was 3.4%.

Gas

The results of the mean of differences for the pre-test and post-test period are
shown on the tables and graphs on the following pages. Gas consumption was
evaluated from November through February. The table of gas consumption
shows an increase of gas use for November and December, with a decrease
for the months of January and February. These four months represent an
decrease in gas consumption by .85%. The overall savings was 7.13%.

4
