ANNEX C
WILDLIFE TASK FORCE #6
I . PURPOSE
The Wildlife Task Force will collect wildlife related impact data;
evaluate this data; make assessments as to severity; make impact
projections; identify sources of assistance and plan preventative
measures; report these assessments.
II . OBJECTIVE
As drought conditions worsen, impacts to wildlife are identified by
an Assessment Task Force so that effective responses can be implemented.
III . ORGANIZATION/IMPLEMENTATION
The Wildlife Task Force is comprised mainly of the Colorado Division
of Wildlife within the Dpeartment of Natural Resources. The Division
is structured into four Regions statewide, with a central administrative
office in Denver. Each Regional Office is responsible for implementation
of wildlife programs within established boundaries. The four Regional
Offices include Ft.Collins, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction and
Montrose. The Division is supported on the Task Force by the U. S.
Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and others designated by
the chairperson. Division of Wildlife will provide the Task Force
chairperson.
Concept/Approach
A Wildlife Task Force will be activated when drought conditions warrant
to assess the impacts on wildlife in a coordinated fashion. Once
activiated, the Task Force will meet on call of the chairperson, to
review drought conditions and the impact on the State' s wildlife
(fish, game and non game) . Reports on this assessment will be made
to the Review and Reporting Task Force as well as to the lead response
agencies.
Tasks
- Upon activation, review and update this annex as needed.
- Identify potential and existent drought related wildlife
impacts with emphasis on the following.
A. Estimate potential short-term wildlife losses and make long-term
projections for losses over the assessment periods. Special
emphasis will be placed on wildlife losses on Division controlled
properties and public lands; fish hatcheries, reservoirs, streams,
terrestrial wildlife habitats and associated recreational areas.
Impacts on private lands will also be addressed .
B. Recommend measures which can either prevent wildlife losses or
mitigate the loss; conservation pools, stream flows, guzzlers,
pond construction, etc. Details are required stating manpower
