Lamm <br /> RE: Drought management plans <br /> DATE: February 11, 1981 <br /> The attached paper prepared by George Lamb, the State drought coordinator, <br /> is a followup to my press conference last Friday. It sets forth the inter- <br /> agency task groups which will be formed to analyze and manage various <br /> aspects of a potentially serious drought situation. These task groups <br /> will include appropriate State, local and federal officials. <br /> Through this framework, we intend to accomplish two primary objectives. <br /> First, though State government is very limited in its capacity, this <br /> structure is designed to respond to the specific problems which could <br /> arise from a drought situation this year. At the same time that we are <br /> managing this year's situation, this structure will set in place the <br /> mechanisms by which State government can approach drought as an ongoing <br /> problem in Colorado which will recur periodically. <br /> Task groups will be formed in the following areas. <br /> Water availability <br /> Information and education <br /> Municipal systems <br /> Agriculture <br /> Fire prevention <br /> Commerce and tourism <br /> Wildlife resources <br /> Economic impacts <br /> For further information, please contact George Lamb at 866-2833 or <br /> Eric Sondermann on my staff at 866-2471. <br />
