APPENDIX 1
(Present Water Availability Information,
Capabilities and Reports by Agency)
Soil Conservation Services (SCS)
- Monthly report titled "Water Supply Outlook", covering snowpack,
stream flow, and reservoir storage conditions, disseminated to
4,000 addressees.
- Ability to call up 50 automated SNOW TEL sites for current data.
- Soil moisture conditions - gathered, but presently not reported
on outside of agency.
State Climatologist
- Monthly Climate Report covering precipitation and temperature.
Comparisons to the historical norms.
- Capacity to develop probability projection based on historical
records.
Division of Water Resources
- Data base maintained at CSU, which contains accummulated data on
reservoir levels, ditch diversions, and water decrees in Colorado.
- Several programs under development with the U. S. Geological
Survey;
A. Water supply data for Municipalities in Colorado -
amounts of water used - source of the water and its
return flow. (limited at this time.)
B. Colorado Water Use Inventory - use of ground water for
irrigation - amount of energy used to pump ground water -
and the rates of ground water production (limited at this
time. )
- Reporting system on estimated stream flows and reservoir capacities
utilizing Water Commissioners throughout the State (presently every
10 days) .
- Dam Roster - containing information on all reservoirs in the
State (part of computer data base) ,
United States Geological Survey (USGS)
- Measures several hundred wells all over the State on an annual
basis. Some areas are measured on a monthly basis.
- Stream stage data, based on reporting stations, some of which
are telemetered.
C-1 -3
