The Town separates its water customers into Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Multi-
Billinas and Collections

The Town's water bill is sent out on the 4th and due on the 20th of each month. Per
ordinance, if the bill is not paid by the last day of the month, the customer account is
assessed a late fee of 1.50/0 of the balance in addition to a $5.00 charge. At this point,
The Town can send a shut-off notice to the customer and water service is terminated
ten days after the notice is sent out.

In practice, however, the Town operates slightly differently. The Town notes past due
balances on each water bill and states any past-due charges not paid by the 10th of the
month are subject to disconnection. After the 10th, the Town identifies the unpaid
accounts and sends out Public Works staff to knock on the doors of these customers.
Payment is requested within ten days. If payment is not received, the water service is
terminated until the account is paid plus a $40 reconnection fee.

The Town averages 60-70 "doorknockers" per month and ends up terminating service
on ten accounts per month.
