CHAPTER 3 - PROFILE EXISTING WATER SYSTEM

Physical Characteristics of the Existing Water System

The location of the Town and the major water facilities of CWCWD's system can
be seen in Figure 1.1.

Potable Water System

The Town of Firestone serves approximately 8,300 people over an area of 17
square miles. Firestone takes delivery of its CBT water from CWCWD. CWCWD
treats water at the Carter Lake Filter Plant. Once treated, CWCWD delivers the
water to the Town via a pipeline delivery system. CWCWD has storage
throughout its system, including 12 million gallons (MG) southeast of Town, to
provide a reliable supply to its constituents. Firestone has recently constructed a
1.5-MG storage tank on its own at the location of CWCWD's 12 MG of storage.
This 1.5-MG tank helps to meet peak-hour demands and to stabilize pressure
throughout the Town's distribution system.

Non-Potable Water System

Firestone presently does not have a non-potable water system. As part of the
Water Resources Master Plan, non-potable sources will be investigated and
considered for irrigation purposes.

Water Oistribution System

The Town of Firestone owns and operates a water distribution network of
approximately 25 miles of pipeline and associated facilities. Over 950/0 of this
network was installed after 1995 and is in excellent operating condition. The
remaining portion of the network is located in the historic Old Town area and was
installed in the early 1970's. This older portion of the network primarily consists
of 4, 6 and 8-inch diameter asbestos cement pipe. The integrity of the older pipe
is adequate, but system capacity evaluations have shown that over time this
portion of the network needs to be replaced with larger capacity pipe to improve
delivery, especially for fire suppression flows.

The pipe network installed since 1995 has been subject to design and installation
in strict accordance with the Town's published criteria and standards. Meticulous
adherence to these standards has helped to create a pipe network that has been
virtually maintenance free. The Town has an excellent operations and
maintenance staff that keeps the system up and running with a minimal budget
for repair and replacement of system components.

Clear Water Solutions, Inc.
Town of Firestone

2007 Water Conservation Plan

6
