.

Representative Pat Grant
Page two
April 7, 1992

.

A communication network has been established for statewide water conservation
coordinators to share information, ideas and identify needs. The Office of Water
Conservation facilitates these quarterly meetings providing cohesion and an
information exchange among efforts undertaken throughout Colorado.

GRANT PROGRAM

.

The Colorado Water Conservation Board approved guidelines for the grant
program in November of 1991. The guidelines and requests for proposals were
then distributed to nearly 500 agencies statewide.

.

This first year, the Office of Water Conservation received 63 grant applications with
many good project ideas. Fourteen (14) projects were approved with funding requests
totaling $202,447. A table of the projects to receive funding and a map of the
statewide distribution of grants is enclosed.

Each activity undertaken by the Office of Water Conservation is publicized to the intended
audience and citizens through meetings or mailings. Media news releases are also frequently
distributed. The Office has received hundreds of calls since its official opening indicating a
. heightened awareness of the Office and its activities throughout the state.

For the next several months, Office staff will focus on assisting state agencies in the
development of their water conservation plans as required by statute, developing and
providing useful information to water suppliers, and finalizing the contracts for the 14 grant
recipients and making sure the projects are started. During the next few weeks Kim Hout
and I will try to meet with you to discuss conservation activities further. Please don't hesitate
to call if you would like to be provided with more detailed information.

Finally, thank you once again for your support of our bill last year. The Water Conservation
program is off to a great start and appears to be receiving public interest and assistance.

Sincerely,

~~

Sara Duncan
Acting Director

/[;., /I/.-t-
/-/' ~~:., . ::/
L". .- /, h
Kim Hout, Administrator
Office of Water Conservation

/krh
attachments

.

leglett
