It is recommended that the same
conservation efforts that are applied in the rest of the
facilities be directed toward this kitchen area also.
The kitchen also has a water cooled ice maker. When this ice
maker is replaced, an air cooled unit should be considered.

CONCLUSION
The Capitol Complex Power Plant, Legislative Services
Building, and the Capitol Annex Building were found to be
well maintained. A program of installing water saving
devices in some of the plumbing fixtures has already begun.
Water use during the past three years has shown a steady
decline, much of which ma~ be attributed to these efforts.
It is recommended that th~s program be continued.

Table 4 lists the approximate costs and the time period
required to recover the costs of recommendations made in this
report. Some of these retrofits may already have been
completed.

TABLE 4
Retrof~t Cost Annual Sav~ngs Payback
gal. $
Flow Restrictors $990 364,000 $820 1.2 yr
(flush valve toilets)
Faucet Aerators $375 338.000 $760 ..2 IT
Total $1365 702,000 $1580 .9 yr

The return on investment for installing faucet aerators and
flush-valve flow restrictors appears to be very cost
effective, with pay back of the initial expense occurring
within one year. other potential savings can be achieved in
kitchen use by repairing leaks and replacing the water cooled
ice maker. For landscape irrigation, installation of rain
sensors could help save water.
