WATER USE AUDIT
STATE CAPITOL COMPLEX

INTRODUCTION
The State Capitol Complex is a group of buildings that house
support activities to Colorado State Government. This water
use audit investigates water use at three buildings that are
supplied through a single meter. This report will discuss
the ways water is used at the State Power Plant, the
Legislative Services Building, and the state Capitol Annex
Building. All three of these buildings are supplied with
water through one meter.

Eddie Hernandez and Jim Reed of Denver Water visited these
buildings on January 11, 1992 and January 21, 1992 to obtain
information regarding water use at these facilities. Chris
Bridges from the Colorado Office of Water Conservation,
Richard Lebsock, Glen Close, and Lou Drieling provided much
of the information about water use practices.

EXISTING WATER CONSUMPTION
The state Capitol Complex receives its water supply from
Denver Water. These three buildings are supplied by a single
tap and meter which is read monthly. Water consumption data
for 1989, 1990 and 1991 is listed in Table 1 and presented
graphically on Figure 1. There is an additional tap that
feeds the State Power Plant, however it presently feeds only
a back-up boiler and is billed to Public Service Company.

TABLE 1
Water Use (1000 gal. )
Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec TOT
1989 171 201 201 392 367 440 631 557 393 343 208 208 4112
1990 208 208 192 392 130 428 478 421 427 323 190 231 3628
1991 191 111 180 136 325 366 552 384 357 257 128 140 3127
