--,

. WESTMINSTER CUSTOMERS FIGURE OUT ~T IS CAUSING A HIGH WATER BILL ..

1. There might be a leak inside or outside of your house.

Go check the water meter when no one is going to be
using water. Note the numbers on the dial and go back
30 minutes to an hour later. If the numbers changed, you
have a leak somewhere.

If you aren't capable of checking the meter, we'll send
out a meter reader.
Look around for potential leaks.

Leaks indoors can account for up to 5% of household
water use.
. Toilet-
Test the toilet by putting a few drops of food coloring in
the toilet tank. Wait 20 minutes, if the color is in the
bowl, there's a leak A leaky toilet can waste up to 750
gallons per month.
Go To How to Fix a Leaky Toilet Page

. Faucet -a dripping faucet could waste as much as 300
gallons/month.
Go To How to Fix a Leaky Faucet Page
Leaks can account for up to 5% of water use in a homel

. High Summer biII
Have you turned your sprinkler on?

2. The meter might have been misread

Let's compare this month's reading to similar months of
previous years

If the meter was not misread, ask the customer to wait
until next month, call us hack if the water costs have not
come down.

If the costs are still high, we'll replace the meter. The
old meter will be tested for accuracy. If its inaccurate we
wiII make an adjusbnent to the previous month's bill.

Additional questions to ask if the biII doesn't drop once
the new meter is installed.
. Has the sprinkler system been turned on recently?
. When does it run?
. How long does it run?
. Is there a chance that there could a broken pipe
somewhere?
. Time the cycles yourself to double check the sprinkler
clock.
. Have you purchased any new/additional appliances
that use water?
evaporative cooler
