.

.

GRANT APPLICATION - PART 2
Cherry Creek Valley Water & Sanitation District

Wabash Complex. The EPA is funding part of the development of the Wabash Complex studies
to evaluate the impact on water quality in the area.

Local support for the project has been expressed by the Greenway Foundation who has accepted
it as one of its two projects for 1997, the Colorado Water Education Foundation who has
committed the resources to work with the District in development of the educational aspects of
the project, the Denver, Littleton, and Cherry Creek School Districts who each have indicated a
need for an urban outdoor or "living" lab to compliment their science curriculum. Arapahoe
County and the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District staff support the water quality
enhancement and channel stabilization components of the project The Utility Advisory Board of
Arapahoe County, Denver Water and City of Glendale support the integration of storm water
management and water right administration on lower Cherry Creek.

Information Transfer

All information developed from the project will be incorporated into a final report that will include
a project summary, background, methodology, and results. The report will be submitted directly
to the Colorado Water Conservation Board. Additionally, upon approval form the Office of
Water Conservation, copies of the report will be provided to the Office of the State Engineer, the
Environmental Protection Agency, Denver Water Distributor Forum, and the Denver Regional
Council of Governments. Project findings will also be shared with the stakeholders in the LCC
basin and the upper Cherry Creek Authority to assure the this project complements water quality
improvement practices in the area. The results of the project will also be used as part of the
information provided in Cherry Creek Valley's Outdoor Lab along the Cherry Creek Trail to
demonstrate the effectiveness of wetlands on water quality, stream bank erosion, and riparian
habitat.

This project may be relevant to the Senate Bill 96-74 studies being completed by the Colorado
Water Conservation Board. It is anticipated that the project report will be prepared in early 1997
during the time frame of the SB96-74 investigations.

7
