This project is a non-potable conjunctive use
water supply utilizing junior water rights on Cherry Creek to store seasonal peak flows derived
from urban runoff. Stored waters will be used a source of augmentation water to replace the
depletions caused to Cherry Creek by alluvial and Denver aquifer well depletions. Nontributary
groundwater from the Denver Basin aquifers will be utilized as supplemental source to meet
demands not met by the junior storage priority.

Water rights for the Wabash Complex were decreed to the District by the Division 1 Water
Court in Case Nos_ 94CW266 and 94CW267. The decreed storage capacity of the project is 419
acre-feet. A total oftive storage vessels were originally plaMed for the project. Additional
investigations in the late 1990's indicated that the construction cost of Reservoir #5 is high due
to the use of that site for the disposal of concrete slab waste. One of the major findings of this
study is that storage capacities greater than 300 acre-feet do not significantly enhance the water
yield of the project and therefore may not be economically viable.

.1.
