4.

The microfilm vault cooling unit is a 3 ton cooling unit that utilizes a once through flow of
water. It is estimated that this unit runs for about 3 hours per day during the summer
months. Using a 10 gpm flowrate, water usage for this unit is estimated at 162,000 gallons
per year.

Two large swamp coolers were added onto the building in 1978, and were intended to
provide cooling for the facility. The larger of the two has a fan capacity of 69,500 CFM
while the smaller has a 54,000 CFM capacity. Due to the relative humidity in the Denver
area and other design deficiencies, these units have proven only marginally capable of
cooling this building. It is presently operated in the early spring and fall in the early
morning hours, approximately 4 hours per day. Water use calculations were made, based
on a 30% humidity and dry bulb temperature of 65 degrees F in the spring and 70 degrees
F in the fall. A 3.7 gpm evaporation rate for the spring and a 4.2 gpm evaporation rate for
fall were calculated. It is estimated that 57,000 gallons per year evaporation are associated
with this unit. Bleed-off would be an additional usage for this unit, estimated at 10,000
gallons per year.

Total water usage for cooling at the Centennial Building is estimated at 229,000 gallons per
year.

Kitchen Use - The cafeteria located in this building is open from 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Monday through Friday. Approximately 150 meals are served per day. Using a .3 gallon
per meal for food preparation, 11,700 gallons per year are used to prepare meals. Other
kitchen uses, such as ice making, dishwashing, and general cleaning would amount to
another 5,000 gallons per year. A total water usage of 16,700 gallons per year is attributed
to the cafeteria.

Landscape Irrigation - The landscaped area adjacent to this building is minimal, estimated
at 4,000 square feet. It is planted with Kentucky bluegrass. Watering of this area is done
early in the morning, utilizing an automatic sprinkler system. Annual water use of about
20,000 gallons is applied to this landscape.

Unaccounted Use - The remaining water use, approximately 111,000 gallons was not
accounted for in this report. This represents approximately 4% of the total water use at this
facility.
