WATER USE AUDIT
STATE CAPITOL BUILDING
STATE OFFICE BUILDING

INTRODUCTION

The Colorado State Capitol Building is located at 200 E. Colfax Avenue. This is the key
building in the State Capitol Complex, and houses offices of the legislative branch of state
government in Colorado. The State Capitol Building was built in 1894, and is the most
significant of all State owned buildings.

The State Office Building houses the Department of Education. This facility was built in
1921 and remodeled in 1985. The State Office Building, located at 201 E. Colfax, is fed
through the same meter that supplies water for the State Capitol Building. That water use
will also be considered in this report.

Eddie Hernandez and Jim Reed of Denver Water visited these facilities 011 October 21,
1992 to obtain infonnation regarding water use. Chris Bridges, Richard Lebsock, and Glen
Close provided much of that infonnation.

EXISTING WATER CONSUMPTION

The State Capitol Building and the State Office Building receives its water supply from
Denver Water, supplied through a single tap and meter. This meter is read monthly. Water
consumption data for 1989,1990, 1991, and part of 1992 is listed in Table 1 and presented
graphically on Figure 1.

TABLE I
Water Use (1000 gal.)

Jan Feb Mer Apr May Jnn Jul Aug Sep <Xt Nov Dee Tot
1989 362 359 454 861 824 1158 1923 1537 907 920 368 311 9984
1990 366 270 454 141 1140 1281 1306 925 899 1127 377 209 8495
1991 271 282 432 531 853 959 1436 922 1279 1023 171 210 8369
1992 219 245 326 860 1113 1109 1091 1226 1260
