3.

66 flush-valve toilets, 23 urinals, 44 bathroom sinks, 12 janitorial sinks, 23 drinking fountains
and 5 kitchen-type sinks. One cafeteria is located in the building. Two large evaporative
coolers, which were intended to provide cooling for the building, were added onto the
building in 1978. A small landscaped area is located in front of the building and is irrigated
with an automatic sprinkler system.

Normal business hours for this building are 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
In addition to the regular employees, many visitors do business in this building. There are
security personnel that watch the facility the rest of the day and on weekends. Steam
heating for this facility is provided by Public Service Company and is not included in this
report. Additional cooling for this facility comes from the cooling system located at the
State Power Plant. Water use for that purpose has been discussed in a previous report.

WATER BALANCE

The types of water uses identified at the Centennial Building include domestic, facility
cooling, kitchen and landscape irrigation. Estimates of water consumption in each of these
areas are discussed in the following paragraphs. Table 2 shows what proportions of total
water use are attributed to each of these uses.

Domestic Use - Employees use potable water for drinking and domestic purposes at this
facility. Shower use is minimal. Daily water usage per full time employee is estimated to
be 11 gallons per day, based on the following assumptions.

* Two toilet uses at an estimated 4 gallons per use equals 8.0 gpd.

* One minute of sink use at an average flowrate of 3 gpm equals 3.0 gpd.

Total use per employee equals 11 gallons per day.

With 750 full time employees, working 5 days per week, 50 weeks per year, regular
employee domestic use is estimated at 2,065,500 gallons per year. Visitors to the facility are
assumed to use another 400,000 gallons per year. Total domestic use is estimated at
2,465,500 gallons per year.

Facility Cooling - Water is used to provide cooling for this facility. In basement 3B, the
microfilm vault utilizes a 3 ton cooling unit. Two large swamp coolers are located on the
roof are designed to provide cooling to the rest of the building. These are only used to
provide a portion of the cooling necessary at the facility. The remainder of the cooling is
provided by cooling towers that are located at the State Power Plant and are not part of the
water usage at the Centennial Building.
