1

3.

The restroom is normally locked and used only by motor pool
and grounds personnel. Vehicle washing takes place year
round, but is limited to warmer days during the winter. The
building is not heated. To ~revent freezing, water is left
running in the restrooms dur~ng the winter. This accounts
for the significant increase in water use that has
historically occurred during winter months.

WATER BALANCE
Water uses at the Social Services Parking Garage are limited
to domestic use, vehicle washing and winter bleed-off. Water
use during the summer months averages about 5,000 gallons per
month. During winter months, average usage increases to
30,000 per month. Daily water use per employee is estimated
at II gallons per day, or about 1500 gallons per month, based
on the following assumptions.

* Two toilet uses at an estimated 4 gallons per use
equals 8 gallons per day.

* One minute of sink use at an average flow rate 3
gallons per minute equals 3 gallons per day.

Total use per employee equals 11 gpd.

Approximately 3500 gallons per month is assumed to be used
for vehicle washing. Domestic use and vehicle washing usage
is assumed to be constant throughout the year. Water left
running to prevent freezing, about 25,000 gallons per month
during the cold months, would make up the additional winter
water use. This would equate to approximately 0.6 gallons
per minute of flow during winter months.

Water uses and the water balance is depicted in Table 2.

TABLE 2
Water Balance

60,000 gal
144,000

29%
71%
100%

Domestic Use
Winter Bleeding
TOTAL
