OFFICE OF WATER CONSERVATION GRANT APPLICATION
Part 2

SILT CAN SAVE

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Answers to questions 1 - 8 on page three

1. Summary description ~ project

The Town of Silt would like to initiate and complete a water
conservation education/implementation project, entitled ft Silt
Can Save I ft, the ultimate goal being a fundamental community
understanding of water production methods and conservation bene-
fits, and total town conversion to certain water conservation
methods and equipment. It is felt that Silt can cut water con-
sumption by a minimum of 20Y. with this project. The grant would
facilitate wide participation and ease of transition, otherwise
unobtainable through local means. Cost of participation would be
zero.

The project would consist of

- distribution of 500 ft Silt Can Save ! ft water conservation
packets (one to each bill paying household ) explaining and
providing immediate effective water conservation methods. Water
users can pick the packets up at City Hall at no charqe.
This packet will contain :
one ft SMART SET ft (copyrighted) showerhead and faucet
conversion kit;
- a series of conservation information pamphlets put out by
the American Water Works Association (AWWA).
- one ft POP-FLUSH ft (copyrighted) toilet conversion system.
a prepaid post card survey will be enclosed. This survey
will ask citizens if they feel the project has been effective,
whether they would be willing to participate in further water
conservation methods as well as suggestions they have for other
water concerns.
Any assistance required would be furnished through the City
Government at no cost (installation, explainations, etc.).

2. Method(s) ~ trackino water savinos

Tracking the water savings can be done with relative ease.
Meters are read every quarter for billing purposes. Once Phase I
has been initiated, readings will be compared to previous year
quarter to determine savings in water. Per household usage will
drop significantly, and results will be released to general
public through a flyer as well as in the local media.

1
