Weiss, Manager
Gene Tautges, Operations Manager
Michelle Peterson, Assistant Manager
These unbilled fixtures have since been provided to the Pagosa Lodge, which is currently undergoing
remodeling. The high- efficiency fixtures will be installed as the remodeling effort is completed; and
the District will conduct a follow -up inspection to ensure the fixtures have been properly installed at
such time as the facility re -opens for business. Therefore, these fixtures have been included in this
invoice.
Task 3
Finally, the District has been compiling and evaluating daily and monthly water use data for each
customer that received retrofit fixtures to allow for the quantification of water demand reductions
over the 8 -month evaluation period. The process of collecting and evaluating water use data has
been instrumental in helping the District understand how to mine its automated meter reading and
data collection and warehousing system. This data will be included in the final report to the CWCB.
The attached invoice includes costs for both the District and Great Western Institute to begin the
data collection and evaluation effort.
Obstacles
The collection and evaluation of data has uncovered a potential challenge that will surface as the
District attempts to calculate water use demand reductions associated with the retrofit installations.
Specifically, tourist visits in Pagosa Springs have increased from 2009 to 2010, which may impact
hotel occupancy and restaurant visits over this time period. Initial analyses indicate that in some
locations water use has increased after the retrofits were installed. The District has been working
with the Town of Pagosa Springs to obtain data characterizing lodging revenues for the period in
question as a means to incorporate increased tourist visits into the ongoing analyses. The report
will provide the analyses and explanations as to how this issue has been resolved.
Also, for information purposes, the District wanted to inform the Office that it seems the waterless
urinals may clog more easily than standard flush urinals if foreign objects (i.e. cigarette butts, toilet
paper, etc) are thrown into the drain. As such, one Smart Water Audit participant was not happy
with this fixture and shared her opinion with other business owners which made them leery of
accepting those particular fixtures as a means of water savings. However, it should be noted that of
the nine participants who received waterless urinals, only one has had complaints.
Steps Remaining
100 Lyn Avenue
P.O.
