The audit program is designed to identify
irrigation inefficiencies. This program can result in the reduction of
water usage and associated costs and reduce runoff improving
water qualit .
Erie offers a remote reader service to all customers who contact
the town concerned that their water bill is abnormally high. Erie
staff will temporarily provide the customer with a remote reader.
This remote reader records the amount of water being used in the
house and can be used to detect leaks.

Erie plans to purchase and give-away approximately 20 pre-rinse
spray valves to Erie restaurants and commercial businesses.

Erie's water bill provides each customer with information on how
much water they used per monthly billing cycle and how much
water was used the same month of the previous year. This
information enables customers to compare and regulate the water
usa e on a monthl basis.
Erie uses their website and email distribution list to convey water
conservation information. Both of these medias have proven to be
an effective means to distribute information to customers. Erie
plans to expand this program by conveying additional conservation
information through their website, newspaper, bill inserts, and
pamphlets.
Erie has annually provided a 3-day water education program for
fourth and fifth graders since 2003. Topics include: equipment
safety, water treatment, stormwater, and water conservation. This
program has received positive feedback from teachers, students,
and parents.
Erie plans to develop a pamphlet on water conservation oriented
landscaping maintenance guidelines. This pamphlet will be
distributed to all current HOAs and all new HOAs established in
Erie. Erie also plans on developing a xeriscaping pamphlet that will
be distributed to customers durin public atherin s.

Erie has a water wasting ordinance that prohibits the waste of
water. This measure has proven to be effective in clearly defining
Erie's position on the ne Ii ent wastin of water.
Erie has implemented a three-tiered water restrictions program
since 2002. Generally the water restrictions have been
implemented on a voluntary basis. This program provides flexibility
to customers recommending an irrigation schedule on a volunteer
basis, yet when the water supply system is stressed, it provides
Erie the ability to regulate irrigation.

ES-4

\\DENSVR1\PROJECTS\9228 - ERIE\59443 - CONSERVATION PLAN\REPORT\FINAL DRAFT\EXECUTIVE SUMMARY DOC
