Castle Rock Water Conservation Master Plan Backaround

Water Treatment

The total finished water capacity of the Town is currently 14.95 mgd when all
treatment plants and associated raw water wells are operating. The Town is
divided into six raw water/treatment sub-systems.

Finished Water System Capacity - As of December 2005

Treatment Raw Water Finished Water
Raw Water/Treatment Capacity Capacity Capacity
Sub-System (mgd) (mgd) (mgd)
Ray Waterman Regional
Water Treatment Center 8,00 3,52 3,34
Founders 3,45 4,38 3,45
Meadows 8,00 6,58 6,25
Phillip S, Miller 2,16 3,81 2,16
Total Finished Water Capacity 15,2
Total Maximum Day Demand 13,0

Transition from the current groundwater supply to the future renewable water
supplies will required significant changes to the Town's water treatment facilities.
More groundwater treatment must be provided in the near future to meet
increasing demands, in addition to the future surface water treatment.

Water Storage

The Town currently operates and maintains fifteen active treated water storage
reservoirs with a total combined capacity of 28.2 million gallons. Additional
reservoirs are planned which will increase the Town's storage capacity to a total
of 48.5 MG.

Water Distribution

The Town's distribution network consists of approximately 200 miles of
transmission and distribution piping, ranging in size from four to thirty inches.
The majority of the piping is eight inch or twelve inch in diameter.

The Town's water system includes seven pressure zones, served by nine
booster pump stations and finished water pumps located at each of the water
treatment plants. Each pressure zone has been established to maintain a
minimum pressure of 43 psi and a maximum pressure of 125 psi under all
demand conditions. Booster pumps provide the ability to move water to a higher
zone for storage or distribution.

TM-1 Background December 2006

11
