Castle Rock Water Conservation Master Plan Backaround

EXISTING WATER TREATMENT, STORAGE AND
DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

The Town draws water from the Dawson, Denver, and Arapahoe aquifers
through a system consisting of thirty-six raw water wells. These wells pump
water to four major water treatment plants for the removal of iron and
manganese, as well as chlorination disinfection. Finished water pumps located
at each of the treatment plants pump finished water to the Town's seven
pressure zones that comprise the distribution system. Nine booster pump
stations, fifteen storage reservoirs, and fifty-six pressure regulating valves are
located throughout the distribution system to serve customers within Town
established level of service performance criteria. Figure 1 shows the geographic
location of the Towns water infrastructure and key information related to these
faci I ities.

The Town also has seven alluvial wells, which are located near East Plum Creek
and Seller's Creek. These wells currently are out of service due to water quality
issues. The long-term plan is to utilize this water to meet a portion of the Town's
water demands.

The Town's current water treatment capabilities meet state and federal
regulations and no further improvements are needed to meet future regulations
that are currently anticipated.

In September of 2006, the Town adopted its updated Water Facilities Master
Plan. This report outlines existing system criteria and inventory, and describes
planned improvements to Castle Rock's water treatment and distribution system
infrastructure to provide service to existing and future development through build-
out of the Town's current service area boundary.

Figure 3.1 depicts existing water infrastructure, and Figure 3.2 depicts the
existing water system schematic.

TM-1 Background December 2006

8
