(Jo",il1i'" I DOItJ }"5 COlAl\o4y <br />HB05-1254 Grant Request <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />Summary of Proposal <br /> <br />The Office of Water Conservation and Drought Planning section has received a grant application <br />from Castle Pines North Metropolitan District, a covered entity located in the south metro Denver <br />area, in northern Douglas County, Colorado. The proposal represents collaboration with Dominion <br />Water and Sanitation District, and Douglas County (see attached letters for support). The application <br />is enclosed for your review. <br /> <br />The applicant is requesting $47,500 to aid in pursuing three potential water saving strategies to <br />minimize outside water usage: I) water efficient landscape plantings; 2) irrigation system efficiency <br />audits; and 3) precipitation management, also known as rainwater conservation. The focus of the <br />proposed project will be on the third strategy - rainwater conservation. <br /> <br />The outline ofthis project is found in Attachment B ofthis submittal. The study will be conducted <br />by Leonard Rice Engineers, Inc (LRE) and Maurer & Associates, two Denver based engineering <br />firms. LRE will concentrate on refining evapotranspiration data, while Maurer will focus on an <br />evaluation of the infrastructure required for rainwater conservation. LRE will be responsible for <br />developing the water balance algorithms and sample augmentation plans as well as summarizing the <br />study for the CWeR ~e proposed project is theoretical study, involving literature reviews & <br />modeling, to demonstrate the feasibility and sustainability of rainwater conservation without injuring <br />existing water rights with the framework of existing Colorado law. This project is a water <br />efficiency study to look at one way to preserve groundwater in the applicant's service area and meet <br />future demands. <br /> <br />The applicant has demonstrated their financial ability to provide 25% of the project budget with <br />matching funds in the form of cash and in-kind services.
