PLATTE RIVER BASIN

06707500 SOUTH PLATTE RIVER AT SOUTH PLATTE, CO

LOCATION.--Lat 39°24'33", long 105°10'10", SE¼ sec. 25, T.7 S., R.70 W., Jefferson County, Hydrologic Unit
10190002, on left bank at South Platte, 200 ft downstream from bridge on State Highway 75, and 400
ft downstream from North Fork.

DRAINAGE AREA AND PERIOD OF RECORD.--2,579 mi²; 1910 to present.

GAGE.-- A graphic water stage recorder and satellite monitoring equipment in a concrete shelter and CMP
well. The Sutron 8004 DCP was replaced with an 8210. The primary gage is an electric tape gage
mounted on the equipment shelf. The station was rebuilt with a 60” CMP well and concrete shelter in
1994. 120-volt electricity was installed in 2001. The cable way was rebuilt in 1995. The gage is
on Denver Water Board property.
REMARKS.--The primary record is hourly data taken from satellite readings with chart back up. The record
is complete. Open water record agrees with the chart to within ±0.02 ft. when pen corrections are
applied. The record is reliable except for the following days when ice was thought to have affected
the stage-discharge relationship: December 19, 2002 through March 4, 2003, which were estimated
using computed inflows from Strontia Springs Reservoir. The record is good for open water
conditions. Station maintained and record developed by Michael Garner.

RATING TABLE.--PLASPLCO16 USED FROM 01-OCT-2002 TO 01-OCT-2003

DISCHARGE, IN CFS, WATER YEAR OCTOBER 2002 TO SEPTEMBER 2003
MEAN VALUES

DAY OCT NOV DEC JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP

1 402 249 247 256 205 215 192 312 714 327 282 352
2 430 274 252 264 248 211 232 295 619 300 303 526
3 363 272 246 275 250 209 269 285 522 285 407 590
4 293 232 246 255 256 198 272 282 478 289 392 712
5 230 234 260 288 250 224 254 265 524 399 374 691
6 222 230 257 268 226 252 228 250 506 393 366 590
7 221 232 263 263 215 255 214 273 488 389 402 691
8 233 318 266 263 240 257 202 288 459 366 426 750
9 269 291 267 254 246 258 202 278 413 323 428 667
10 278 289 285 241 270 261 273 329 413 317 379 605
11 303 283 291 290 258 264 409 323 422 322 376 595
12 305 238 296 266 248 266 391 312 417 397 427 578
13 306 248 299 270 271 268 378 237 422 383 415 572
14 300 253 306 271 281 248 439 235 431 318 404 578
15 262 250 304 255 257 228 369 263 402 369 399 568
16 257 240 287 225 247 229 340 308 395 380 396 551
17 257 240 282 225 246 231 335 321 399 457 416 549
18 286 237 276 227 251 255 329 362 509 508 423 538
19 286 231 240 247 247 155 409 346 567 524 451 403
20 286 233 221 254 248 159 357 354 478 476 396 399
21 286 236 221 251 255 145 298 334 420 458 386 403
22 285 234 237 247 250 130 300 356 388 483 396 452
23 288 250 293 251 214 141 309 526 374 551 440 546
24 288 249 231 248 257 161 309 481 351 450 447 512
25 286 251 286 233 259 186 306 498 360 477 489 421
26 250 240 272 190 262 199 319 481 360 512 504 412
27 253 250 290 170 256 222 343 508 426 430 529 412
28 250 262 251 165 232 197 337 589 492 462 583 409
29 252 253 264 164 --- 160 341 600 499 445 568 395
30 243 250 251 153 --- 160 330 648 505 411 600 419
31 244 --- 271 238 --- 172 --- 670 --- 304 652 ---

TOTAL 8714 7549 8258 7467 6945 6516 9286 11609 13753 12505 13456 15886
MEAN 281 252 266 241 248 210 310 374 458 403 434 530
AC-FT 17280 14970 16380 14810 13780 12920 18420 23030 27280 24800 26690 31510
MAX 430 318 306 290 281 268 439 670 714 551 652 750
MIN 221 230 221 153 205 130 192 235 351 285 282 352

WTR YR 2003 TOTAL 121944 MEAN 334 MAX 750 MIN 130 AC-FT 241900

MAX DISCH: 870 CFS AT 08:15 ON Aug. 31, 2003 GH 3.82 FT.
