Colowyo C1981 -019: 2011 Annual Reclamation Report ReviewAugust 16, 2013
number, roadway, pond area, etc.). Weed management is considered a cultural practice in accordance
with Rule 2.04.13(1)(e).
CCC conducted interim vegetation monitoring in 2011 and submitted a report of the results of the vegetation
monitoring. The 2011 Vegetation Monitoring report provided weed control recommendations on reclaimed
parcels with vegetation seeded four (4) years or longer. Please find a summary of the 2011 vegetation
monitoring report weed management recommendations:
Section 16-S16 Group A; "Canada thistle was observed during the ground cover evaluation and
chemical treatment should be considered to maintain control of this unit."
S 16 Group D: "Noxious weeds are fairly well controlled in this unit. However, Canada thistle was
encountered during ground cover evaluation and should be treated to maintain control of this unit."
East Pit- EP038; "Noxious weed control efforts in this unit should be elevated given Canada thistle
comprises 1.9% of total cover and was observed throughout the unit."
EP042; "Noxious weed control efforts in this unit should be elevated given that Canada thistle
comprises 0.4% of total cover. Treatment would insure that the population does not expand."
EP047; "The use of herbicide Plateau could be considered in this unit to reduce competition from the
annual bromes and improve perennial species cover." "Cedar Creek recommends active management."
EP048: "Noxious weeds are fairly well controlled in this unit. However, Bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare)
was encountered during vegetation sampling and control should be considered to prevent the spread of
this noxious species."
EP049: "Noxious weeds are fairly well controlled in this unit. However, Musk thistle (Carduus nutans)
and Bull thistle were present in small numbers and further treatment to control the spread of these
noxious weeds is recommended."
EP050: "Annual bromes are present with 10.2% cover. The use of the herbicide Plateau could be
considered in this unit to further reduce competition with annual bromes and improve perennial species
cover."
5. (EP050's depiction is very confusing on the map as there is also an EP50 seeded 2006 of 26.1 acres. Is
this parcel included in, or separate from the EP050 2007 of 85.6 acres ?)
West Pit: WPO09: "Noxious weeds appear to be controlled on this unit." There were no
recommendations for weed control in this parcel.
WPO10: "Noxious weeds appear to be well controlled as there were no noxious species observed or
encountered during vegetation sampling. Annual bromes in the northeast section of this unit occur in a
large patch and the use of the herbicide Plateau should be strongly considered in this unit to reduce
competition and improve perennial species cover."
2
