time will be limited. This will also help reduce the exposed land area, which will reduce the
reclamation bond and impacts to wildlife.
2. Topsoil Replacement
The amount of topsoil proposed to be salvaged and replaced is 56,660 CY as shown in Table D-
1. This is based on a minimum thickness of 12 inches across the site. Topsoil can be as thick as
60 inches on the southern end of the site. Since the topsoil and overburden stripping methods are
both hoe and truck, and the placement of the vast majority of these materials happens
immediately after stripping, the topsoil does not need to be handled separately from the
overburden.
All of the dryland pasture and hay meadows areas will receive topsoil replaced to a thickness of
12 inches, including the existing disturbance. The topsoil from the topsoil stockpiles and berms
will be used on the remainder of the site that was not concurrently reclaimed. All other mining
areas will receive topsoil directly from surrounding mining areas. The compacted areas will be
ripped prior to topsoil placement the help root penetration past the topsoil.
3. Haul Roads and Access
Portions of the existing roads in the permit area will be removed and others altered. See Map F -1
for details. Access through the site will remain after mining using the access road installed as
shown on Map C -2
Hayden Gravel Pit, May 2013 E -2
