42 Class X Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project
There were few associated artifacts inside and outside the structure. Inside the structure are the
remains of an unattached cabinet that measured 3 1/4 x 1 1/2 ft and had a latched door, a claw
hammer head, a crushed sanitary tin can, one clear glass window pane fragment, and a slide bolt.
A new rope hangs from one rafter. Outside the structure are several lumber scraps, two skeleton -key
knob flanges, one door hinge, and a crushed sanitary tin can. Medium -sized mammal bone
fragments (deer ?) are scattered within and without the structure.
The possible deer remains and rope suggest that the structure has been, and may still be, a hunting
shack used for dressing game. The structure has also served as a livestock shelter with
correspondingly deleterious effects.
A review of the MTP and Historical Indices for T4N, R94W, and the BLM patent website indicates
that Julius Raymond Wagner received a Homestead Entry Patent (HE No. 1210746) for 320 acres
on July 12, 1960 (BLM n.d.). This patent was acquired under the 1862 Homestead Entry Act.
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Effect: Site 5MF6061 is recommended as not
eligible for listing on the NRHP when evaluated under Criteria A, B, C, and D. The site cannot be
associated with any events or persons(s) (Julius Wagner) important in local and regional history.
The construction design and execution is commonplace and demonstrates no significant architectural
design or use of specialized materials. The site has poor physical integrity lacks integrity of location,
and it has no potential to contain intact significant subsurface cultural deposits. Recordation has
exhausted the research potential of the site.
The site occurs outside the revised project area boundary, and it is recommended as not eligible for
the NRHP. The current project will have no effect on the site. Cultural resource clearance is
recommended with no further work.
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
