Backfill will generally be pushed less than 400 feet and on a level path or path not greater than 2%
uphill, and will be required on 75% of all acreage.
2. Soil will generally be pushed and spread downhill at a path of 2% or steeper, and less than 300 feet.
3. Seeding and mulching will be done mechanically, on slopes of 2HA V or flatter.
4. Roads will be 20 -26 feet in width (including shoulders) and will have an average of 4 to 10 feet
disturbed width (30 feet total), which will be reclaimed as roads are built.
5. Assume that 50% of area seeded will require reseeding, and that 25% of area seeded will require
weed control.
6. Permanent berms and swales on downhill (south) side will be constructed as part of initial stripping.
Shaping (final contouring) and placement of topsoil will be done at that time and are therefore not part
of the cost of reclamation.
7. Permanent berms and swales will be seeded at time of initial construction (with seasonal
consideration), but for conservative bonding, revegetation of these most of these areas is included in
the estimate. Berms and swales will not exceed five (5 %) of total affected area.
8. The portion of the backfilling associated with stripping has not been included, as the cost would not be
incurred if the stripping was not done.
9. Revegetation is based on using existing soil types for the entire site (other than roads), and vegetating
appropriately. Revegetation includes costs of soil amendment, mulching, and fertilization (if used).
10. If there is a surplus of soil, backfilling will be accomplished using the nearest source of available
material, or soil thickness will be increased accordingly. In particular, permanent berms at lower end
may be constructed entirely of stripped soil.
11. Grading and contouring includes work to shape sediment basins. Except for the Work Area, basins
will not require topsoil placement or vegetation, and will not exceed 5% of total affected area.
12. Roadways will not require scarification, final contouring, or topsoil placement, and will be constructed
to county standards as mining progresses. Roadways will require approximately 8% of total area.
13. All acreages are estimates.
14. These figures represent present (2013) costs using contracted equipment and personnel.
Activity
Description
Unit Cost
Acres
Cost
Backfilling
Backfilling from stockpiles (incl. berms) and
scarif in if needed
$1000 /acre
4.8
$4,800
Grading
Grading, contouring, and final grading and
scarif in if needed
$750 /acre
4.8
$3,600
Soil
Placement
Haul and spreading of soil on backfilled,
scarified areas
$300 /acre
11.9
$3,570
Seeding
Seedbed prep, seed, mech. seeding,
mulching and 50% reseeding
$750 /acre
11.9
$8,925
20,895
DRMS Administrative Costs
35%
7,313
TOTAL
$28,208
