Section 2. Backfilling and trading
A) Placer Pit: The pit will be limited to a maximum of 20,000 cy for backfilling.
B) The Infiltration Pond and highwall will be limited to a maximum of 12,000 cy backfilling. A
fill pile of approximately 8,000 cy is located immediately south of the highwall and will be used
to backfill the pond with an extremely short downhill dozer push. This pile is seen on Map C -2.
C) Other backfilling on site of process ponds and general grading is limited to 16,000 cy.
The total backfilling and grading quantity is therefore 48,000 cy.
Although some minor locations will have slopes of approximately 2.5H:1 V, these areas (less
than 1.5 acres) replicate the original slopes of the land. The vast majority of the reclamation will
have slopes less than 5H:1 V.
Section 3. Topsoiling
There are 2 main topsoil stockpiles on site that were constructed when the site was initially dis-
turbed from the previous operator. These two piles contain approximately 9,100 cy of topsoil.
In addition to thee efforts, import of topsoil will be encouraged over the life of the mine. Good
topsoil will be placed in Stockpiles #1 and #2. Poorer material may be added to the Substitute
Subsoil Stockpile.
Since a total of 35.56 acres will require re- topsoiling, an average depth of 6 inches will require a
quantity of 28,685 cy. The current available amount in stockpiles is 9100 cy, and an additional
amount of 8 inches is available from 11.0 acres of land that has not yet been disturbed. This will
yield an additional 11,831 cy. Therefore the total soil available will be 20,931 cy. Therefore, im-
port of approximately 7753 cy will be needed to complete the reclamation over the life of the
mine. This should not be a problem.
For the worst case retoposiling effort, topsoil will be spread evenly over the worst case disturbed
area to a depth of 6 inches. Using the area of 21.13 acres, this is a volume of 17,044 cy.
The operation will attempt to import as much topsoil as possible to provide a greater thickness of
soil cover on the reclaimed lands, since there is a deficit from the pre -law disturbance when no
topsoil was salvaged.
Gloria Z Mine 2013 Amendment 24
