IRIS
MITIGATION AND DESIGN, INC.
Environmental Consulting
IRIS MITIGATION AND DESIGN, INC.
2022 Arapahoe Street
Golden, Colorado 80401
Phone: 720 - 272 -1985
bleisure @irismitigation.com
approximately 0.59 acre of upland located directly south of and adjacent to the installed cut -off
wall was restored through the removal of rocks and debris and through the addition of
approximately 6 inches of imported topsoil (see enclosed 2012 Progress Report Photo Log). All
mitigation areas were then seeded with either the upland, transitional or wetland seed mixes as
detailed in the IRIS 2011 Biological Assessment and hydro - mulched in July 2012. Seeding and
hydro - mulching activities were completed at all seeded areas to stabilize the soil following
Phase 1 construction activities.
Trees and shrubs were not installed in any of the created, restored, or enhanced mitigation
areas in the summer of 2012 because it was an especially dry summer and the trees and
shrubs might not have survived. The mitigation sites located on the north side of the creek
(approximately 0.16 acre total) were trampled by several cattle which illegally accessed the site
in late August/early September 2012. The 0.59 acre restored upland area located just south of
the cut -off wall was not trampled. Due to this trampling and the hot summer conditions, the 0.16
acre mitigation areas were re- seeded and stabilized with erosion control blanket in mid -
September 2012 (see enclosed Photo Log). In addition, one disturbed riparian area
(approximately 500 square feet) adjacent to the discharge point of the 18 -inch pipeline was
prepped, augmented with imported topsoil, and seeded and blanketed in mid - September 2012.
This approximately 500 square foot area was temporarily disturbed during the 18 -inch pipeline
stabilization activities in August 2012 and was therefore revegetated and stabilized during the
same time as the trampled mitigation areas in September 2012.
Schwartzwalder Mine Actual Area Impact Progress Report Page 2
January 2013
