IRIS
MITIGATION AND DESIGN, INC.
Environmental Consulting
IRIS MITIGATION AND DESIGN, INC.
2022 Arapahoe Street
Golden, Colorado 80401
Phone: 720 - 272 -1985
bleisure @irismitigation.com
All seeding and mulching of mitigation areas to be completed following Phase 1 construction
activities, as required in the revised actual area impact and mitigation calculations (see Table 1),
were therefore completed by the middle of September 2012. The required trees and shrubs
which will need to be planted at the end of Phase 1 construction activities will be installed in the
spring of 2013, in either late April or May depending on weather conditions. The tree and shrub
count is detailed on Table 2 and includes 2 upland trees, 208 upland shrubs, 20 riparian trees,
120 riparian shrubs and 150 willow stakes. The remaining Phase 1 impacted trees and shrubs
and mitigation activities as detailed on Table 1 will be completed following Phase 3 clean -up
activities. These will include 0.3 acre of upland area restoration being seeded and mulched,
0.35 acre of riparian area creation and restoration being seeded and mulched and the planting
of 174 riparian trees and 615 willow stakes. The reason for the delay in planting of the trees
and willow stakes is that much of the area along Ralston Creek downstream of the cut -off wall
may be impacted during valley floor clean -up activities. Since it is unknown at this point exactly
where this impact will occur, the planting of required trees and shrubs will be more prudent once
the valley floor and associated Ralston Creek clean -up work has been completed.
IRIS has been monitoring tree and shrub health along Ralston Creek within ten 3 -meter square
plots as part of the 2011 BA requirements. Blair Leisure has been collecting data monthly
downstream of the cut -off wall since July 2012. One more set of data will be collected in late
September 2012. This data will be used to compare with next year's data that will also be
collected along the creek monthly during the growing season in 2013. All data will be available
in the Schwartzwalder Mine 2013 Monitoring Report to be completed for 2013.
Schwartzwalder Mine Actual Area Impact Progress Report Page 3
January 2013
