tT IRIS
MITIGATION AND DESIGN, INC.
Environmental Consulting
Phase 1 Mitigation to be Completed after Phase 3
IRIS MITIGATION AND DESIGN, INC.
2022 Arapahoe Street
Golden, Colorado 80401
Phone: 720 -272 -1985
bleisure@irismitigation.com
Of the remaining 0.79 acre of mitigation to be completed at the end of Phase 1 construction
activities, there will be 0.07 acre of created riparian habitat including three mitigation areas
which will be seeded and mulched and planted with 120 riparian shrubs as originally permitted
in the 2011 BA (see Table 1). The remaining temporarily impacted riparian area will include
0.09 acre of restored riparian area which will be seeded, mulched, and planted with 150 willow
stakes and 20 riparian trees. This area is located directly upstream of the cut -off wall.
Of the 1.48 acres of required Phase 1 mitigation, 0.69 acre will be mitigated for at the end of
Phase 3 site clean -up activities. The reason for the delay in mitigation is that Ralston Creek will
be further impacted during Phase 3 activities. We do not want to plant trees and shrubs
downstream of the cut -off wall in a location which may be impacted during the Phase 3 clean -up
process. Once the Phase 3 clean -up is complete, there will be ample space along Ralston
Creek and associated uplands for both riparian and upland area creation, restoration, and
enhancement. In addition, there will be ample space for necessary upland and riparian tree and
shrub plantings following Phase 3 clean -up activities. For a complete description of Phase 1
mitigation activities to follow Phase 3 clean -up activities, please see Table 2. This mitigation will
be completed in conjunction with any additional Phase 3 mitigation needs.
2012 Phase 1 Actual Area Tree and Shrub Impact
The 2012 actual area impact due to Phase 1 construction activities to trees and shrubs was less
than what was originally permitted due to the decrease in area that was impacted during Phase
Schwartzwalder Mine Actual Area Impact Page 6
January 2013
