electric and phone lines and service roads account for
approximately 1898 acres. Another 95 acres are affected by
Clinton Creek Canal and No. 1 Canal .
Major tailing deposition sites ( 13 , 14 , 15 , 22, 23 ,
31 and 32 ) are all active and presently affect approximately
1880 acres. The Mayflower pumps and treatment plant ( 33 ) , Pond
Shop Facility ( 21) affect an additional 75 acres associated
with tailing deposition.
The Oxide Tailing Pond ( 18 , 19 ) is presently not an
active tailing deposition site, but may be used as a backup
system. Oxide tailing was disposed of on the site during the
mid-1960 ' s and currently affects 64 acres.
Five topsoil stockpiles ( 3 , 7 , 35 ) are located around
the property and will remain active for some time. Buffehrs
Quonset Facility ( 9 ) is used as storage for Climax and
contractor materials and equipment. Two remaining disturbances
include a r.evegetated area below Clinton Dam (24 ) and Rock
Stockpile ( 30 ) created by the State Highway Department during
construction of Highway 91 relocation in 1977-1978 .
Climax has mined aggregate in the Arkansas Aggregate
area (4 ) which essentially covers 154 acres. Mining was
temporarily discontinued in 1977 in this area and will be
resumed around 1982. Aggregate mining commenced in the Kokomo
area ( 27 ) in 1978 when the Arkansas Aggregate area was
discontinued. Total acreage of the area is 769 acres, part of
which will be mined until approximately 1982. Eventually, the
Kokomo area will be covered by the advancing Mayflower. Tailing
Pond , one disturbance covering another .
Two other aggregate operations on the property were
formerly referred to as Lowder.milk ' s Pit One and alternate Pit.
the pits were originally used by H. E. Lowder.milk Company to
obtain aggregate for. the Colorado State Highway 91 relocation
project. Pit One was covered by Mayflower tailing and the
Alternate Pit will be considered as part of the Kokomo
aggregate operation.
6-2
