5. CLIMATE <br /> Climate is typical of high elevations in the Rocky <br /> Mountains. Short cool summers average less than _a_ 45-day grow- <br /> ing season. with mean daytime and night-time temperatures near <br /> 640F and 39oF,-respectively. Long cold winters are able to <br /> produce extreme minimum temperatures near -400F. Table 5. 1 <br /> provides the average maximum and minimum monthly temperatures <br /> at Climax. <br /> Precipitation averages 22 inches annually with <br /> approximately 70 percent occurring as snowfall . Annual contin- <br /> uous snow cover exceeds 200 days.
