naturally revegetated for years. Canal maintenance procedures may
create new minor disturbances through the years, and r.evegetation
activities will quickly follow. Canals will remain intact
following mine cessation.
10 . 27 ROCK STOCKPILE (30 )
Rock from the Rock Stockpile ( 30 ) will be used as needed
for miscellaneous projects that may arise during the life of the
mine . The area may eventually accommodate a topsoil stockpile.
Remaining rock at the end of the mine life will be used for
reclamation purposes . Final r.evegetation of the site will consist
of grading , hydr.oseeding, along with a fertilizer and then
hydromulched .
10 . 28 MAYFLOWER TAILING POND (31) AND NO. 5 DAM ( 32 )
The Mayflower Tailing Pond (32 ) will serve as the
primary tailing deposition site through the life of the mining
operation. A topsoil stripping operation will continue for
several years ahead of the advancing tailing . The topsoil will be
used immediately for reclamation projects, nurseries or stored in
the Mayflower topsoil stockpiles for future reclamation projects .
Reclamation of the 1 , 280 acres will commence after
mining ceases , around the year 2020 , and as soon as tailing
becomes stable enough to support equipment. Waste rock will be
hauled from waste rock disposal sites and spread over the tailing
to a depth of three feet and the area reclaimed with methods
similar to the Tenmile Tailing Pond , including the use of limited
topsoil quantities taken from the Mayflower topsoil stockpiles to
create islands of soil over the rock.
The dam face also will be stabilized with rock waste
material hauled from rock waste disposal sites . Average depth
will be three feet. Access benches will be provided for
revegetation purposes. The overall dam slope will be 4 : 1,;
however. , bank slopes will be approximately 2 : 1 . Accessible areas
on the dam will have a wood chip or straw mulch ripped in with an
initial fertilizer . This will be followed by sewage sludge, if
10-21
