Following the eventual removal of the stockpiles , sites
will be reclaimed using an initial fertilizer , the Climax seed
mixture , hydromulch , and planted trees and shrubs. The exception
is the McNulty Stockpile No. 1 , located at timberline, on which an
alpine seed will be distributed , if available , and selected high
altitude shrubs will be planted.
10 . 14 ARKANSAS AGGREGATE AREA ( 4 )
Ultimately, the Arkansas aggregate area (4 ) will be
reclaimed to a recreational land use.
Aggregate mining in the area temporarily ceased during
the autumn of 1977 and may resume around the year 1982. During
the interim, both permanent and temporary reclamation will occur .
Depleted portions of the pit ( approximately twenty acres) continue
to be landscaped and revegetated using the Climax seed mixture ,
spruce , pine and aspen trees, willows and other shrubs, an initial
fertilizer and hydromulch. Also during the autumn of 1977 , the
Arkansas River was relocated in this area to provide access to
aggregate reserves when mining resumes . The new channel corridor
was stabilized and reclaimed during 1977 and 1978 according to
specifications provided in U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 404
Permit.
Acreage over the remaining aggregate reserves was
fertilized , seeded and mulched to obtain a temporary vegetation
cover to control erosion and for aeschetics. This acreage will be
r.edisturbed when mining operations resume. During 1981 or 1982,
the _Storke Level settling ponds will be removed from this area and
the ground temporarily revegetated as described above in this
paragraph.
Final reclamation under consultation with the Division
of Wildlife will occur during Phase III or. IV, when aggregate has
been depleted . Landscaping and revegetation operations will be
similar to those used for the twenty acres described above, except
that a limited amount of topsoil ( approximately 4 , 500 cubic
yards) , some stockpiled prior to 1976 , will be available to spread
over areas most lacking in fines and most visible from the
10-12
