10 . 12 CIRQUE DUMP AND HAUL ROAD (2 )
The surface of the Cirque Dump and haul road (2 ) would
be anticipated to cover approximately 133 acres; however. , much of
it will subside due to underground mining and create a large rock
slope on the east perimeter of the Open Pit. The Cirque Dump
slopes necessarily will be reclaimed to an alpine talus slope .
The haulage road , if still existing , and the remaining dump
surface will be sparsely revegetated to rocky alpine tundra.
Reclamation will occur during Phase III.
Both machine and hand methods will be used to seed ,
fertilize and mulch. If an alpine seed source has not been
developed by the time reclamation is to occur. , the Climax seed mix
will be broadcasted over the rock material along with or separate
from an initial fertilizer and hydromulch. Some areas may be out
of reach of the hydromulcher. .
The haulage road and remaining dump surface will be
reclaimed by ripping in a straw or wood chip mulch along with an
initial fertilizer. . Seed , mulch and ammonium nitrate ( 200
lbs./acre of 33-0-0 ) will be applied with the hydroseeder. . Seed
will be from either source as qualified above. A maintenance
program will continue for some time as warranted.
The Cirque Dump reclamation project will be the first of
its kind within the alpine zone on Climax property and will be the
testing ground for methods and materials to be developed by
Climax' s alpine research program.
10 .13 TOPSOIL STOCKPILES (3 , 7 , 35 )
Topsoil stockpiles ( 3 , 7, 35 ) near McNulty Waste Rock
Dump, Fremont Pass and Mayflower Tailing Pond will be temporarily
_j
vegetated and maintained to prevent erosion after stripping and
stockpiling is completed. A fertilizer application, along with
the Climax seed mix and hydromulch will be used to vegetate the
material . The material may also function as a tree and shrub
nursery for transplants taken from areas about to be disturbed.
The transplants will be moved again to revegetate other suitable
disturbed sites .
10-11
