be for a cirque and talus slope appearance with exceptions for
haul roads and other relatively level and accessible areas.
Reclamation activities could commence during Phases III and IV on
certain portions of the Open Pit, particularly haul roads and rock
slopes on Bartlett Mountain and Ceresco Ridge.
Benches within the Open Pit are intended for slope
stability and safety; however , on remaining portions of final pit
limits outside active work areas where loose rock, natural
weathering and ground subsidence have obscured any bench system,
limited revegetation could occur when safe and accessible.
On haul roads and other accessible areas upon which
equipment may work safely, an initial fertilizer application and
wood chips or straw will be ripped into the rock material . Sewage
sludge, if available, will be ripped in also or applied to the
surface .
Establishment of a sparse vegetation cover will be
sought within portions of the Open Pit and subsided areas provided
by two seed sources and possible planted shrubs. If successful
results are obtained with alpine research plots, an alpine seed
source will provide seed for revegetation in accessible and
promising portions of the pit. Certain portions of the pit slopes
will not be conducive to revegetation due to lack of fines and
because of danger to workers. Seed will be aerially or
handbroadcasted over the steep rock slopes . The alternate , but
most reliably available, seed source will be the Climax seed
mixture. Within the lower and more weather protected portions of
the pit, certain shrubs may be planted , again, depending upon the
results of alpine research plots.
An initail fertilizer application will be hand
distributed . A maintenance program will be developed through
experience during Phases III and IV and abided by for Phase V
Reclamation in the Open Pit.
If new reclamtion technologies and materials are
developed and acceptable to Climax and to the Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Board , a technical revision will be requested in the
future.
10-10
