Seeding activities at Climax occur
throughout the summer and are done mostly with the hydroseeder. ,
the remainder by hand methods ( cycloneseeders) . The hydr.oseeder
utilizes a 3,000 gallon solution of water , fertilizer and seed for
each application.
10. 6 TREE PLANTING
Climax has experienced both success and failure in its
tree planting program. Utilizing this information and that
obtained from the Henderson Mine experiences , Climax anticipates a
long and beneficial native tree planting program for its subsoil
disturbances , waste rock covered tailing , waste rock dumps and
general beautification effort.
Presently, emphasis will be on Engelmann spruce,
lodgepole pine, limber pine and br. istlecone pine trees for most of
the Climax property. Engelmann spruce is -the prevailing forest
type in the area. Lodgepole pine exists only in scattered areas
and not very abudantly; however. , the tree should do well at mid
and low elevations on the property. Limber pine and bristlecone
pine do well in disturbed , exposed sitess . The spruce and pines
do well if initially watered , mulched , fertilized and sheltered
with a shingle , log , rock or some other. object.
10-5
