. Annual Report, Climax Mining Permit #77-493
October 6, 1981
Page Two
Some other mining and supplemental activities which have
occurred include:
1. A new west tailing delivery pipeline was installed to
replace the old pipeline. The new pipeline reaches the
Tenmile Tailing Pond and eventually will be extended to
the Mayflower Tailing Pond.
2. A new domestic water pipeline from Chalk Reservoir to
Camp has been completed.
3 . A new domestic water treatment plant has been con-
structed and is now operating.
4. A new crusher (No. 6 Crusher) for open pit rock has been
constructed and is currently under testing and will
commence operation likely this November.
5 . A new geology core shack has been constructed.
6. A new settling pond with pump station is currently under
construction in the storke area.
7 . A new access road to the storke area has been con-
structed for employees in order to abate traffic
hazards.
Lands anticipated to be affected during the next years '
activities are essentially as described in the Mining Plan.
Revegetation activities proceeded in accordance with the
timetables of the Mining Permit and Amendment. During the
past year, approximately 40 acres of land (500 acres since
Board approval of the original permit) were reseeded,
fertilized and mulched (hydromulched or straw-mulched and
tacked with netting on steep slopes) . About 10, 000 tree and
shrub seedlings were planted (40, 000 since the original
report) . The permit specifies the seed mix, types of ferti-
lizer and mulch, and the rates of applications . The wet
summer of 1981 was most beneficial to both the 1980 and 1981
seedings.
Tree seedling species included lodgepole pine, bristlecone
pine, limber pine and Engelmann spruce. At this time,
lodgepole pine appears to be the most successful tree species
for planting in the Climax area. Shrub species included
raspberry, currant, snowberry, rose, cinquefoil, willow and
sage. Rose and cinquefoil appear to be the most successful
shrub species .
