999
Y CLIMAX MOLYBDENUM COMPANY
A DIVISION OF AMAX INc
Climax, Colorado 80429
(303) 486-2150
GOLDEN, COLORADO OFFICE: 13949 WEST COLFAX AVENUE 90401
October 26, 1981
Robert Turner, Chairman
Mined Land Reclamation Board
Centennial Building, Room 423 1J81 I `
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203 ``
[, e*4a
tfi`_1iCPu 1..ANID
Re: Annual Report, Climax Mining Permit #lfof5:` f*, Gfi N:alutui
Dear Mr. Turner:
The Division' s most recent, thorough appraisal of the
Climax operations occurred about one year ago during the
processing and approval of an amendment application. This
report addresses activities which have occurred since the
Board ' s approval of the Amendment on November 19, 1980 .
The Climax Mine presently employs about 2, 750 people and
produces around 46, 000 tons of ore per day from the open pit
and underground mine. At this point in time, approximately
7, 600 acres of land are affected directly by the mining
operation, under the process of reclamation, or considered as
buffer to the operation. More than 1, 000 of the 7 , 200 acres
have received vegetation attention during the last fifteen
years . Some of the revegetated acreage is in excellent
condition; all of it progressively improves with each passing
year .
The Mining Plan and schedule of affecting lands remains
basically as described in the original Permit and subsequent
Amendment. Haul road access to the Bartlett Mountain side of
the open pit has been initiated; the lower levels project,
located on the Arkansas River Valley, continues, which will
provide access to the lower levels of the orebody; and,
aggregate mining has returned to the Arkansas Valley aggre-
gate area. Waste rock dumping in McNulty Gulch is occurring
simultaneously with dumpsite preparation (tree clearing and
topsoil stripping) . Site preparation has also occurred for
the expanding low-grade ore stockpile . Tailing deposition
occurs on Mayflower, Tenmile and Robinson Tailing Ponds.
