Revised 11/15/81
2.05.4 Reclamation Plan
Reclamation of the disturbed area within the permit area at the Maxwell
Mine will be completed at the end of the anticipated mining operation.
Because the Maxwell Mine is an underground mine which was constructed in
1976 and which began production in 1977, CF&I Steel Corporation
anticipates that reclamation of the existing disturbed area will not be
completed for approximately 40 or more years. The existing mine's area
of operation is shown on the Mine Plan Map (Map 3). This Map shows the
general reserves which will be mined during this period. During this
extended life of the operation, all of the structures and surface
facilities at the Maxwell Mine will be in service. In addition, CF&I
Steel Corporation plans to continue mining in the Maxwell Mine area
during the future and may utilize the structures currently used at the
Maxwell Mine for other mining operations. Should these structures be
required for other mining operations, CF&I Steel Corporation will
provide the necessary plans and applications for approval by Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Division. As reviewed in the Mine Plan portion
of this application, CF&I Steel Corporation will maintain the structures
and surface facilities in a manner such that they will provide safe
working conditions to the employees and the general public and not cause
adverse environmental impacts.
A detailed timetable for the completion of each major step in the
anticipated reclamation plan is shown in Table 15, Reclamation
Timetable. In addition, the backfilling and grading plan which CF&I
Steel Corporation plans to follow is shown on the Post-Mining Topography
Map (Map 15) . The relationship of existing slopes and topography with
the planned backfilling and grading plan is shown in the Post-Mining
Cross Sections (Map 16).
Reclamation of the structures and facilities at the Maxwell Mine, as
shown in Table 15, Reclamation Timetable, will involve the dismantling,
salvage, and removal of all existing structures. These structures
include the tipple, breaker, silo, hoist house, office, warehouse,
2.05-27
