Revised 11/15/81
sewage treatment plant, slope conveyor, and water tank. CF&I Steel
Corporation plans to salvage all iron and steel scrap which is of value
within these structures and remove them from the minesite. All material
which cannot be salvaged or does not have value will also be removed
from the minesite and disposed of in the appropriate manner. Materials
such as concrete, insulation, and other general waste material will be
hauled to the local landfill or disposed of onsite in an environmentally
safe manner. .
Other facilities and structures that will be removed include the
railroad spur which is located off of the main line track. The railroad
spur will be dismantled and removed after the mine has been closed and
it is not needed for other uses. The rail and other scrap iron material
will be removed and salvaged. Ties, ballast, and subgrade material will
also be removed from the site and disposed of appropriately.
The sediment control structures and surface drainage ditches which are
required to route surface water to the sediment ponds will be left
intact during the revegetation period. After the area has been
revegetated to pre-mining conditions, CF&I Steel Corporation plans to
remove the sediment ponds only if they are determined to create a safety
hazard or have a negative impact on the environmental resources.
The reclamation of .the coal processing waste disposal banks will consist
of covering the material with non-toxic material as is available at the
minesite. Several detailed studies of the coal processing waste
material indicate that this material is not acid-forming nor toxic.
Therefore, it is not required to cover this material with soil material
other than to provide a plant growth medium.
A detailed cost estimate of the reclamation plan included in this permit
application has been determined by CF&I Steel Corporation. This plan is
located in Rule 3, Performance Bond Requirements. Supporting
calculations for the bond and reclamation cost estimate are located in
Exhibit 17 , Bond Calculation.
2.05-28
