Coversoil salvaging may vary from zero to
60 inches depending upon slope and aspect. As-a guideline WFC will use a maximum of 18
inches. This will allow supervisory personnel to instruct operators to salvage a specific
depth. Salvaging eighteen (18) inches is optimistic based on the soil baseline study and
sampling.
Comment No. 2
The material volume for workability will be dependent upon plant reject fines,
moisture and rainfall. it is impossible to predict the actual volume requirements. WFC
can assure only that material which is needed will be used. The cost of rehandle will
preclude excessive borrowing.
Salvage pads will normally be 50 to 100 feet wide and 3 to 4 inches in depth. The
length will be dependent upon the salvaging area undertaken. The salvage pad volume can
be minimized by salvaging coversoil far in advance of refuse bench construction.
Comment No. 3
WFC will maintain a minimum vertical buffer zone of 2 feet between refuse and
undisturbed topsoil.
Sincerely,
David M.
