7.2.2 BAR BENDING <br /> Bar bends shall be made in conformance with Chapter 8, ACI 318. <br /> All bars will be bent cold. <br /> 7.3 STRAIGHTENING AND REBENDING <br /> Reinforcement shall not be straightened or rebent in a manner that will <br /> injure the material. Bars with kinks or bends not shown on the Drawings <br /> shall not be used. Heating of the reinforcement shall be permitted only <br /> when the entire operation is authorized by the Engineer. <br /> 7.4 PACKAGING <br /> Bars shall be bundled and tagged in accordance with the Manual of <br /> Standard Practice for Reinforced Concrete Construction. <br /> 7.5 ACCESSORIES <br /> Accessories such as bar supports, spacers, and ties shall be furnished and <br /> arranged in accordance with the Manual of Standard Practice for Reinforced <br /> Concrete Construction. <br /> 7.6 CLEANING <br /> Objectionable coatings on bars, such as paint, oil, grease, dried mud, dried <br /> mortar, loose rust, and scale shall be removed by wire brushing, sandblast- <br /> ing, wiping with burlap, or other effective means. <br /> 7.7 PLACING <br /> Reinforcement shall be accurately placed and adequately secured in position <br /> by concrete or metal chairs or spacers, and shall conform to the following: <br /> 7.7.1 MINIMUM SPACING <br /> The clear distance between parallel bars shall not be less than the <br /> nominal diameter of the bars, one and one-third 0-1/3) times the <br /> maximum size of the coarse aggregate, or one-inch (1"), whichev- <br /> er is greater. <br /> 7.7.2 CONCRETE PROTECTION FOR REINFORCEMENT <br /> Provide minimum concrete protective covering for reinforcement <br /> as follows: <br /> 7.7.2.1 Concrete deposited against earth: three inches (3"). <br /> SPEC.
