7 EXCAVATION PROCEDURES <br /> 7.1 Excavation may be accomplished by any method and by use of any excavation <br /> and hauling equipment suitable for the work and site conditions and capable of <br /> meeting or exceeding the requirements of these specifications. A list of the <br /> equipment that the Contractor intends to use shall be submitted to the Engineer <br /> prior to mobilization of such equipment to the work site. Unsuitable equipment <br /> and equipment in disrepair or unable to perform the intended tasks shall not be <br /> mobilized to the work site or used in the performance of the work. <br /> 7.2 All excavations shall be performed to neat lines and grades as indicated on the <br /> Drawing, as specified herein or as designated by the Engineer. Excavation of the <br /> existing embankment shall be performed in such a manner as to allow for the <br /> segregation of Zone 1, Zone 2, and riprap. Any over-excavation or excess <br /> excavation beyond grade or neat lines that is not requested or authorized by the <br /> Engineer shall be at the expense of the Contractor. <br /> 7.3 The excavation procedures apply to work performed as described in Sections 8 <br /> and 10 of this Specification. <br /> 8 BORROW AREAS AND SEGREGATED STOCKPILES <br /> 8.1 GENERAL <br /> 8.1.1 Riprap shall be obtained from materials salvaged from the existing <br /> upstream dam face, approved local suppliers, and/or stockpiled <br /> material at various sites on the Owner's property. Riprap bedding <br /> material shall be obtained from approved local suppliers, designated <br /> sites on the Owner's property and/or as otherwise approved by the <br /> Engineer. Embankment fill material shall be salvaged from existing <br /> Zone 1 and Zone 2 embankment fill and/or as otherwise approved <br /> by the Engineer. The Engineer does not guarantee that all earth <br /> materials salvaged from the existing embankment will meet the <br /> requirement of these specifications. <br /> 8.1.2 The method and equipment used by the Contractor in the excava- <br /> tion of materials in the borrow areas shall be such as will produce <br /> SPEC.A- EARTHWORK <br /> PAGE 7 <br />
