the required uniformity of mixture of each of the types of earth <br /> materials at the borrow areas. <br /> 8.1.3 Materials shall be inspected and classified as specified in Section 6 <br /> during excavation activities. Zone 1, Zone 2, and riprap materials <br /> shall be excavated, hauled, and stockpiled separately to ensure <br /> segregation of the materials. Segregation of materials shall be <br /> accomplished to the satisfaction of the Engineer. <br /> 8.1.4 Organic soils and topsoil material stripped from borrow and the <br /> embankment shall be stockpiled at a location designated by the <br /> Engineer for later use on the downstream face of the dam and for <br /> use in reclamation of disturbed areas. <br /> 8.1.5 Stockpile locations shall consist of relatively level, well drained <br /> areas. The selected areas shall be subject to approval by the <br /> Engineer. <br /> 8.1.6 Temporary silt fences shall be constructed along the outside <br /> perimeter of each stockpile area. <br /> 9 FOUNDATION PREPARATION <br /> 9.1 GENERAL <br /> All topsoil, sod, and organic materials shall be stripped from the areas upon <br /> which the embankment fill is to be placed. All stripping, leveling and proof rolling <br /> of foundation surfaces on which the embankment fill is to be placed shall be <br /> accomplished to the satisfaction of the Engineer. No earth materials shall be <br /> placed until the condition of the surface on or against which it is to be placed has <br /> been inspected and accepted by the Engineer. <br /> 9.1.1 The excavation of foundation shall be made to the depths indicated <br /> on the Drawings or as required to remove topsoil, soft and deleteri- <br /> ous material, and to provide a reasonably level surface. <br /> 9.1.2 Prior to placing any fill, the subgrade should be scarified, moistened <br /> as required and compacted to ninety-eight percent (98%) Standard <br /> SPEC.A- EARTHWORK <br /> PAGE 8 <br />
